Don't believe white lies

Amazing results  WITH OUR CAMERA SETTINGS . No, that’s not a misprint. This patient DID NOT WHITEN THEIR TEETH. In fact, these photos were taken about 60 seconds apart. All we did was change the lighting for the before and after.

It would be nice to do this, and claim miraculous results such as “8 shades whiter” blah blah blah. You see, as dentists, we are actually held to certain standards (that the rest of the “beauty and cosmetic” industries aren’t held to).

BAND A RE.jpg

Our photos have to have the same lighting before and after, and must use a shade guide as a universal control indicator of accuracy. This must be recorded and documented. Without a shade indicator, how can you make any sort of shade claim?

With the recent explosion of “miracle whitening” operators, it’s understandable that people are a bit sceptical. The fact is that;

1) independent operators are only allowed to use 6% hydrogen peroxide gel or equivalent, compared to the almost 40% concentrations that dentists are allowed to apply.

2) They are not trained to Inspect for gum disease, exposed roots, decay or leaking fillings before applying peroxide, which could cause harm to the teeth and gums.

3) And clearly, they don’t even take accurate before and after photos

Understandably it can be hard to know what’s real. We feel it’s our duty as dentists to make patients aware of the facts so that they can make the best informed decision for themselves. These photos prove that you can’t believe everything you see! #dontbelievewhitelies
